NPI Madness Part II

In our last newsletter (http://www.satechs.com/newsletters/0609newsletter.htm), we let the proverbial cat out of the bag that you CAN use your existing Lytec program to file claims using the new National Provider Identifier (NPI). Today we get to prove it!
Now that the new CMS 1500 form has been released, and we have had the opportunity to get our hands on the new paper HCFA, we have thus created for you new paper and electronic form files which you can use.

The Ground Rules

Where we pull the new fields from
The NPI forms we offer here will work with any version of Lytec from Lytec 98 through Lytec 2006 immediately. That being said, Lytec will not be adding any NPI fields to Lytec 2006 until January, and does not ever plan to make any further adjustments to any of the older versions of Lytec. For these reasons, we had to utilize Lytec’s ability to create custom fields for many of the new requirements to work. The table below illustrates where we are utilizing these custom fields.

Fields we now pull Where they go in the new HCFA Where the field pulls from if you have
Lytec 98, 2000 2001 Lytec XE, 2004, 2005, 2006 SP5.1
Group Practice NPI Box 33 Provider Custom Field 1 Provider Custom Field 1
Provider NPI Box 24J, and Box 33 IF no Group NPI is Present Provider Custom Field 2 Provider “Other ID”
Facility NPI Box 32 Facility Custom Field 1 Facility “Other ID”
Referring Provider NPI Box 17a Referring Provider Custom Field 1 Referring Provider “Other ID”

IMPORTANT: If you CURRENTLY already use any of the fields we are using for these forms, you will need to contact us, or your local Lytec reseller, to customize these forms for you.

Sharing these forms:
You may freely distribute or share these forms to anyone you know who may benefit from them. We trust in the interest of karma you will not personally profit from these forms by selling them. If a reseller asks you where you got these, just let ‘em know you got them from Stephens & Associates. You may, of course, modify the forms as necessary to suit your needs!

For Our Validator Users:
The Validator uses the same exact fields as those mentioned above for the NPI, but due to the fact that we need to send additional segments, we had to make some changes to the program’s support files for it to be “NPI compliant” with all versions of Lytec from 98 to 2006. For this reason, we are supplying the NPI forms with our free Validator 5.11.0 update, due out in approximately 2 weeks. This is the 11th free major update to our Validator program since Validator 5.0 was released in 2001.

Downloading and Using these forms:

The forms below are for use with Lytec, and should be downloaded and saved directly to your Lytec forms directory. If you try to open them directly from your web browser, they will do you no good. If you need assistance, contact your local Lytec reseller, and they will be more than happy to assist you in downloading these.
